Daytona Speedway

My older brother went on a preteen teen missions team and I traveled with my grandparents to pick him up

During the trip my grandparents and I visited Daytona International Speedway.  I found it interesting, they simulated the sound of a race by putting it through the speaker system.  My grandfather loved it, since he’s a huge nascar fan.  This experience didn’t cause me to become a nascar fan because I believe in making right turns but it was interesting none the less.
I remember trying to convince my grandparents to go to Daytona Beach and they refused.  I can’t remember if my brother was along for this part of the trip.

Tubing in Winter

When I was in tech school, they had a snow tubing trip.  A couple times during the two winters I was in tech school I went to Seven Springs Ski Resort in Seven Springs Pennsylvania.  During my time in school I went 3 to 5 times over two years while in tech school in Johnstown.  I always had a blast, as an added bonus, they had a tubing lift.

Scalped

During high school I went to, two Atlantic 10, men’s semifinal basketball games in Philadelphia.  The one year we got better seats because we snuck down closer to the court without getting caught.  The other year my youth pastor at the time, roger, almost got arrested for scalping extra tickets.  The cops caught him, he talked his way out of it.

One Hitter

The first professional baseball game I went to was in Baltimore at Memorial Stadium.  We hiked up to the upper deck.  When we got to the stadium seating, my grandmother argued with the usher.  She was persuasive and they gave us better seats in the first level of the stadium because of her bad knees.  They announced during the game, that this was the last year for memorial stadium.  When the game ended, the Orioles had one hit.  Here's the boxscore joe Orsulak broke up the no-hitter.

If you comment please keep the comment to the topic of the post whether that be a restaurant or a city I'm discussing in a post or something that interests you in a post.

Comments that will be deleted anything not related to a post.  Examples, promoting a site, religion, politics etc.  In addition, if you post a link to an outside site it will be deleted.  Now if a post touches on one of these topics then by all means comment but I try to avoid that so the sites inclusive.

This site was created so I can write about restaurants and travels so some day I might get a job where I'm paid to write about traveling.

Pizza Rustica

This pizza place is located in downtown Columbus.  I went here out of desperation, I was looking for some place to eat after the conference I was attending (in July) was over and nothing was open past 10pm.  I went in wanting to buy a couple slices but they don't sell slices after 7pm, lame if you ask me.  So I ordered a pizza.  The pizza wasn't special their are pizza places where I live (Lancaster PA) that make better pies than this place.

encountered travelers

"The thousands of travelers I've encountered shared a common desire for continuous learning, a need for authentic experiences, and a deep concern for their role in leaving the world a better place.  That and a little sense of adventure are all that's needed to travel the world."

Cold Station

I dreaded the cold and winters in Johnstown (PA) because it meant that the train station wouldn’t be heated.  So that’s how Amtrak saves money, it all makes sense now.  I’ve had my eureka moment.  Trust me it sucked.  Plus, the freight trains always delayed Amtrak’s great service.  So it was rare that the Amtrak train was on time.

I never understood why when we got to the Harrisburg station.  They gave the smokers a 15-minute smoke break.  So much for getting home early.  I guess Amtrak thinks that lung cancer is a commodity on the futures exchange.  I guess Amtrak should be happy, I never smoked.  So I don’t have an excuse to sue them.  Rats, now I’ll have to get a real job.  I’ll never forget the one time we got to Harrisburg early and they added the time to the smoke break.  The train turned into a sauna because it was a hot summer day and all the doors were open.  The Amtrak people were brilliant on that day in 2008.
In case you’re wondering, this post is about Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian Line, it goes from Pittsburgh to Grand Central Station (nyc) and the opposite direction.

You can get AAA discounts when you buy train tickets.  If you’re a member.

Detroit's gift

There’s a museum in the metro area of Detroit, that is special.  The museum is vast with huge interior and exterior parts of the museum.  Henry Ford would be proud of it since its named after him.  Yes, there is a big car section but theirs other stuff like a recreation of a colonial village.  If my memory serves me correct.

The highlight besides the cool stuff in the museum was when we got an order of fries.  My parents ordered a small and it was huge.  Two adults could easily be fed by it but in my family’s case, it fed all four of us.

During the trip we stopped and visited Detroit’s zoo… nice place.  If I have any memories about the zoo, I’ll write about them.  Since I currently can’t remember anything.
